*It was a typical early afternoon in New York City, it's streets busy with heavy lines of traffic and the bustling of crowds going about their daily lives. On this very day, a tall teenage boy was walking down the sidewalk amongst crowds and crowds of busy New Yorkers going about their daily lives. The boy had dark brown hair, wore a black Greek Fisherman's cap, a pair of black sunglasses, a long black coat, and turtleneck shirt. His name was Robert Willis and he was en route to meet a particular individual amongst New York's busy crowd. Turning a corner, he came across another teenager, about an inch shorter than him, leaning on a traffic post. A rather pale teenager, he had scraggly black hair that matched the black shirt with a white skull on the front, a spiked collar around his neck, black wrist bands, nearly a dozen belts around his pants, and a pair of black shoes with spikes on top. This was Chris Christie, Robert's best friend, someone Robert recognized immediately upon sight. The two had planned to skip school so as to look for something fun on this rather typical day*

Robert: *walks up and taps Chris on the shoulder* Yo, Chris.

Chris: *turns to see Robert and smirks* Hey, Rob. *low fives him* Was wondering when you'd show up. *looks up to the sky* How much time has passed since last time we hung out? Days? Weeks? Months? Too long to count, least in my opinion.

Robert: Two weeks, I counted. Yeah, sorry about that, man. Didn't mean to leave you hanging. It‘s just that, well… I met someone.

Chris: Is that all? *takes a cigarette from out of his pocket and sticks it in his mouth* Famous celebrity, I imagine? *takes out his lighter and lights up the cigarette*

Robert: No, man. You know, a-- *looks at the cigarette* Hey, when did you start smoking?

Chris: *sucks a bit, blows a puff of smoke* Only when I feel like it.

Robert: *annoyed, waves the smoke away* Well, could you please not smoke those around me? I'd like to stay cancer free, thank you.

Chris: Whatever, dude. *flicks the cigarette into the trash* So am I ever going to know the guy you've been hanging with for two weeks or so?

Robert: Girl, actually.

Chris: *looks to Robert, raising an eyebrow* Seriously?

Robert: Yeah, man.

Chris: *smirks* Heh! So Rob's finally got the guts to ask out a girl, eh? Never thought I’d see the day. *starts walking down the street* So, who is she?

Robert: *walks alongside Chris* Her name's Eva. She's new, we met at lunch a few weeks back.

Chris: Sure, because it's always the most sensible place to meet women these days.

Robert: Oh, screw you.

Chris: Whatever, man. So why aren't you escorting her to class if she sounds that special?

Robert: I felt bad for not hanging out with you as often as I used to. I guess I should've told you about her sooner, huh?

Chris: You could've, would've, should've, but you "didn't". Course, I've been your best friend for years, Rob. I know you like the back of my own neck.

Robert: Look, I'm sorry, okay? It's just... Eva's not like any girl I've met. *pause* Kind've the only girl, actually. Anyway, she's really nice and we share a lot in common. Being that it's the first time I've been hanging out with a girl my age, I really want to make sure this works out.

Chris: Does she know you skip school to hang out with me?

Robert: Of course not! That information's restricted. Then again, if you'd come to class more, I wouldn't have to go that far just to see you.

Chris: School sucks, all it represents is pointless information thrown at your face and lessons, I might add, that we're not entirely going to use by the time we're in our twenties. Besides, we have the internet.

Robert: *shrugs* Sure. Until some douchebag's purposely messing with wiki pages.

Chris: *presses his hands to his head* Yep. Good times. So, what are we going to do today?

Robert: I don't know. Something, I guess. *turns to Chris* Although, I could use some of your notable words of wisdom to help me with this little situation I'm in at the moment.

Chris: That depends… How serious are we talking about?

Robert: Like I said, I want to do something special for Eva. And I wouldn't be asking you for help with this if I didn't think it was serious.

Chris: *sighs* Okay, what the hell, shoot.

Robert: You see, I'm taking Eva out on our first date this weekend and I'm a little short on cash to take her anyplace special. Course, since you know these streets more than I do, perhaps you could--

Chris: I could tell you all the really cheap places on 47th street just to get you two started. If you're referring to what I think you're about to bring up, you can forget it, pal.

Robert: Oh, come on, man--

Chris: No! Screw that, Rob! I haven't heard all the details of your plan, but I can tell right away it's trouble. Haven't you sunk low enough already?

Robert: Says the Goth kid wearing a skull shirt, smoking cigarettes.

Chris: Better being a Goth on a good day than an Emo. You'd hate to see me on a bad day. *looks at Robert evilly with a glint in his eye*

Robert: No use threatening me, dude. I’ve known you long enough to know that there’s absolutely nothing you can do to scare me.

Chris: *turns to Robert* Look, Rob, I just don’t want you to do anything so stupid that you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.

Robert: Other than hanging out with you?

Chris: Hardy-har. *lights another cigarette* Doesn't your mom have money she can lend you?

Robert: You really think my mom would lend me money, after she finds out I decided to skip school today? I mean sure, I haven't made it easy for mom lately, but… I don't know. If I could just make her proud of me, just for once, maybe she'd trust me again.

Chris: *blows smoke out from his nostrils* Isn't she already proud that you haven't gotten killed in a gang war or arrested for stealing?

Robert: Look, are you going to help me or not?

Chris: *sighs* Fine. *flicks the cigarette* I know a guy a couple blocks from here. But I'm telling you, whatever you're planning, I'd stop while I'm ahead if I were you.

Robert: If it's the quickest way to make fast cash for my date with Eva tonight, what other option is there?

Chris: Okay then, follow me.

*With no second thought, Robert followed Chris as he led him through the sea of passerbys on route to the guy who could offer just what Robert wanted. After turning a couple corners, the two teens passed through a couple street vendors, each attempting to make a quick buck out of anything they believe can be sold for a great profit. Amidst the shouting and the curious eyes of unsuspecting customers, Chris pointed over to the last vendor at the end of the block. A mysterious Latino individual, long dreadlocks hanging loosely over his head, standing behind a table with rather old antiques on display. He took note of the two boys motioning towards his stand, a gleam appeared on his eyes at the anticipation of potential customers*

Robert: *quietly to Chris* That the guy?

Chris: *quietly to Robert* Unfortunately, yes. Only the shadiest on the block, assuming you know how he works.

Robert: *quietly to Chris* If he's shady, then why did you take me to him?

Chris: *quietly to Robert* Because he DOES make the best deals and he knows what people needs.

Seller: Hey, Chris! Wassup, man? How you been?

Chris: The same as every other scum of the Earth against the ideas of God just for my taste in music, Julio.

Julio: *chuckles* Good to hear, man. *sees Robert* Hey, uh, who’s your friend?

Chris: This here's Rob, we've known each other since kindergarten.

Robert: *extends a hand* Hi, nice to meet you.

Julio: Sup! *slaps his hand* Friends call me Julio, Julio Migardi. So hombre, word on the street is that you're aimin' for some quick greens.

Robert: How did you know?

Julio: I know my customers the same as I know these streets, esé. *points to his face* These eyes know exactly what desires you hombres seek.

Robert: *raises an eyebrow* Uh… Okay. So, when you put it that way, I am in need of some money and I hear you're the best person to turn to.

Julio: That's right, I can give it to ya, my friend… That all depends on what YOU can offer in exchange.

Robert: *looks at Julio's merchandise on the table* You sure this stuff is legit?

Julio: Legit? What are you, a cop?

Robert: Just asking.

Julio: Dude, I swear on my Abuela's grave that this is a collection worthy of being on a king’s pedestal.

Robert: *picks up a wrist watch* Really? I didn’t know wrist watches were worthy of belonging on pedestals.

Julio: *takes the watch back* 100% pure solid gold straight from Columbia, my friend.

Robert: *skeptical* Hmm… I don't know.

Julio: *annoyed* Look, man, if you’re not interested in doing business with me, then get the hell away from my stand! I don't care if you ARE Chris’ friend.

Robert: Look, look, look, I'm sorry, okay?

Chris: *tries to urge Robert away* C'mon, Rob, let's just go.

Robert: No, no, come on! I wanna do business, it's just that I wanna be sure you're on the level, alright?

Julio: Look, it's easy. If there's anything worth buying from my stand, you pay me in cash. But if you've anything to sell to me, then you get the cash. Now, do you have anything of worth to sell to me, esé?

Robert: *thinks it over* Well… I…do have this necklace at home. Will that do?

Julio: That depends… What kind of necklace are we talking about?

Robert: A 24 karat gold necklace… A rare collector's piece.

Chris: *raises an eyebrow* Uh, Rob, you're not talking about--

Julio: Hmm… *extends his hand* You got a deal, esé! *shakes hands with Robert* Bring the necklace and the money is yours.

Robert: Great! Uh, when do you want me to bring it?

Julio: Not here, that's for sure. *looks side-to-side, pulls a piece of paper from his pocket* Meet me at this location tomorrow night, with the necklace. You bring the necklace and I'll have the cash by then.

Robert: How much cash are we talking about?

Julio: Depends on the necklace's value. If it's worth as much as you claim it is, my number is on that paper. Just text me a picture of the necklace and I'll decide for myself if it's worth a king's ransom.

Robert: Okay, good. I'll see you tomorrow.

Julio: Take it easy, bro. The streets can be very dangerous if you're not careful.

*Chris followed Robert, who seemed satisfied that a deal seemed to be made for his upcoming date with Eva shortly. Chris, on the other hand, was still uncertain about this rather shady deal that he had just witnessed*

Chris: You know, Rob, I don't remember you ever owning a gold necklace before. Oh, wait, now I remember. You don’t own one, your MOM does!

Robert: What choice do I have, Chris? Besides, it's not like mom will even know it's gone. She hasn't worn that necklace in years.

Chris: Oh yeah, and how are you gonna explain what happened to it if she ever decides to wear it again?

Robert: I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Besides, all that trinket does is bring more painful memories than she already has.

Chris: *shakes his head and sighs*

Robert: Look, after I get the money, I'll just buy a replica and she'll never know the difference.

Chris: You're an idiot. You're just…an idiot, okay?

Robert: Hey, you were the one who suggested I go to Julio in the first place!

Chris: At least I'm not a douchebag selling his mother's necklace. God, I just knew you were gonna do something stupid like that, I just knew it!

Robert: Look, Chris, relax! Julio said to text him a picture of it to see if it's worth anything. If it isn't, then I won't sell the necklace. Happy?

Chris: Just remember, Rob. If this blows up in your face like I suspect it will, don't expect to pull me in to bail you out again.

Robert: Whatever, dude! *looks at the watch in his left wrist* Anyway, school's gonna end in about half an hour. I better get going if I wanna walk my brother home. Otherwise, mom's gonna know I skipped.

Chris: Yeah, I got somewhere else to be anyway. Think I'll drop by the mall to see if any new albums have come out. Just really think this over, dude… I mean "really" think it over, okay? *continues down the street*

*Robert watched as Chris' outline shrunk smaller and smaller as he faded in the distance. Robert made his way down the street, but then he paused for a moment as he in fact thought of what Chris said. He at least acknowledged the fact that he was only looking out for him and Chris did make some good points. But there was no room for second thoughts right now. Rob's big date with Eva was approaching fast and he'd do whatever it took to make this first impression a great one*

*Meanwhile, at James K. Polk High School, Joey, Robert's younger brother, was working on a project in the computer lab. He had large spiky brown hair and dressed in a brown vest over an orange t-shirt over a black long-sleeved shirt, tan shorts, and a gray headband with a red stripe in the middle. He was currently sitting next to an African American boy about his age, with dark dread-locked hair, a red headband, a New York Knicks jersey over a white t-shirt, and a pair of red gym shorts. This was Jermaine Williams, Joey's best friend, who was currently typing away at his computer as if attempting to upload something onto YouTube. While this was going on, Joey attempted to pay close to attention to his teacher, Mr. Morrissey. He was a tall, well-built man, moderately muscular in size, who had red curly hair, a mustache, and wore a pair of reading glasses*

Mr. Morrissey: *looks to the clock, back to the class* Alright class, you only have a few minutes before the bell rings. Anyone who has yet to finish their assignments must do so now.

Joey: *raises his hand* Uh, Mr. Morrissey, what if some of us can't finish our projects in time?

Mr. Morrissey: I do allow an extension on projects, but it will still deduct from a final grade. But luckily, it's only a small price to pay so long as the end result turns out well and not much will be necessary to complete.

Joey: Okay, thanks.

*As Mr. Morrissey turned to address another student, Jermaine leaned in next to Joey and attempted to draw his best friend's attention*

Jermaine: Dude, your project ain't finished yet?

Joey: Hey, cut me some slack, it's not a project that's easy to work on when I have to share a computer with my brother. He's been hogging the computer most of the time just so he can chat with his new girlfriend.

Jermaine: New girlfriend? Your brother, the Emo-Goth-Whatever has a new girlfriend?

Joey: Yeah, they met about a couple days ago. Don't get me wrong, she's nice and all, but then we don't get to hang out as much as we used to.

Jermaine: Since when did you two ever hang out together? Doesn't a guy like him have Goth friends to hang with or something?

Joey: Unfortunately, yes. In fact, Robert practically skipped class just so he can hang out with Chris… Again.

Jermaine: *chuckles* It was good while it lasted, huh?

Joey: Yeah, I guess. *looks over at Jermaine's computer screen* What are you doing anyway?

Jermaine: I'm trying to upload my music video project onto YouTube. If Mr. Morrissey likes it, maybe the world wide web will, too.

Joey: I didn't know you were allowed to upload videos to YouTube from school.

Jermaine: Not unless you really know how to get past the firewalls. But fame waits for no one, bro, and sometimes you just have to take a chance for what you love. Who wouldn't?

Joey: Well, you better hurry, we only got like two minutes before school ends.

Jermaine: Relax, my man, watch and learn from the master. *types in a few commands* First I just need to gain the access, then type in a few simple strokes, and… *types the last key* Bingo!

Joey: Cool. But, uh… What are you gonna tell your “fans” if Morrissey gives your video an F?

Jermaine: You have no faith in me whatsoever, bro! There's not one music video that poses a greater challenge for me to tackle.

Joey: Okay, okay, calm down, dude! Jeez! You don't have to take everything I say so seriously, okay?

Jermaine: Who says I was serious? This is the most fun I've had in weeks!

Joey: Whatever.

*Just then, the school bell rang, a signal that the end of the school day has clocked in. As if on cue, all the students began to shut down their laptops and proceed to leave the classroom carrying their school supplies*

Jermaine: Well, guess we'll find out how the project goes tomorrow. *fist-bumps Joey* Catch ya later, man. *picks himself off his chair, leaves the classroom*

Joey: *sighs* Guess I'll have to finish the video tomorrow. *gets up out of his seat, grabs his backpack and approaches Mr. Morrissey's desk* See you tomorrow, Mr. Morrissey.

Mr. Morrissey: Say, Joey, may I ask for your help for a second?

Joey: Uh, okay, sure. *puts his backpack down* What’s up?

Mr. Morrissey: *motions a pile of boxes by his desk* Would you mind moving these old discs into the top shelf in the closet? I'd do it myself, but my back's not how it used to be. *makes for the closet door* Happens when you get to be my age.

Joey: Aren't you only thirty-five though?

Mr. Morrissey: *pause* That's the sad part.

Joey: *looks at the boxes* Well, okay, I’ll try.

*Crouching down to the top box, Joey carefully lifted one box and entered into the closet, after Mr. Morrissey opened the door for him. Once the box was safely placed onto the middle shelf, he motioned back toward the last box and lifted the contents toward the shelf. He brushed his hands together while admiring his handiwork*

Joey: Phew. Glad I did that. *walks out of the closet* All done, Mr. Morrissey.

Mr. Morrissey: *holding Joey's backpack* Thank you very much, Joey. *hands the backpack to Joey* I'd be careful where you leave your stuff, by the way. Wouldn't want to lose anything vital, like say…a certain school project?

Joey: You mean I can edit the rest of my project at home?

Mr. Morrissey: *hands Joey a USB flash drive* Precisely. You are one of my most prominent students, after all. But I suggest using that time wisely, I can't very well stress enough on that matter.

Joey: *smiles* Okay, thanks. *takes the flash drive and puts it in his backpack* Well, I gotta go. *puts the pack on and heads out the door* See you tomorrow.

*Some moments later, as all the students departed from the school and merged down the stairs, Robert leaned along the railing tapping his foot on the ground impatiently and peeked at his watch every few seconds waiting for someone. He turned his head around and saw his little brother, Joey, come out of the building and upon returning Robert's gaze waved enthusiastically to his brother quickly making his way over*

Robert: 'Bout time.

Joey: Sorry, Rob, Mr. Morrissey wanted me to help him put some boxes away.

Robert: Is that all? *sighs* Never mind. Let's get you home before mom throws another fit.

Joey: Okay.

*So it was that the two brothers walked along the familiar streets in the direction towards home. A wail of sirens followed by the swift velocity of two police cars whizzed by the two, but for them it was pretty much a typical New York day. After a while, they hardly spoke much and there was that awkward silence between the two boys. But finally, Joey decided to break the silence*

Joey: So, how's Chris these days?

Robert: Eh, same old stuff. Just buy him a pint of blood and he's as happy as he can get.

Joey: Heh. Yeah…

Robert: Anyways, I hope you got plans this weekend, little bro. I'm planning on taking Eva out Saturday.

Joey: Oh, where to?

Robert: *shrugs* I have ideas. It's my first date and I really want to leave a good impression on her.

Joey: You're going out dressed like that or are you gonna wear something other than black for a change?

Robert: *eyes Joey* Hardy-har. Luckily I have the rest of today to decide what to wear for my date.

Joey: What's the point? You'll just end up wearing the same black clothes as you've been doing for the past 6 years now. Rob… *sighs* I know you still miss dad.

Robert: *stops, pause* I told you never to bring him up… Ever!

Joey: S-Sorry.

Robert: *shakes it off* Just forget it, all right. It never happened, nothing was brought up. Besides, maybe Eva likes black. Black's all the rage these days.

Joey: If you say so. *remembers* Hey, Rob, listen, if you're too busy planning for your date with Eva, maybe now I can have the time to--

???: *calls from behind* Hey guys!

*The two brothers turned to see a tall female figure rushing towards them. She had purple eyes, long purple hair, and dressed in a light violet shirt and beige bell-bottom pants with orange shoes. This was Eva; Robert's girlfriend, who was happy to see him*

Eva: Sorry I'm late, I had a major biology exam to take and was the last student to leave. Really wanted to make sure to read over EVERY question.

Joey: *to himself* Never mind…

Robert: Hey, it's all right, Eva. I'm really looking forward to our date.

Joey: *rolls his eyes and sighs*

Eva: *turns to Joey* So Joey, how's that project of yours coming along?

Joey: *looks at Eva* Good, I'm almost done. Mr. Morrissey said I could finish the rest at home. That is, unless Robert actually lets me use the computer for once.

Robert: You can have your turn as soon as I finish a couple things.

Joey: Like what?

Robert: Like chatting with Chris to see how he's doing and looking up some places that sound great for our upcoming date.

Joey: Of course…

Eva: I hope you're not going through too much trouble just for a date, Robert. As long as we get to spend some time together, it's all right with me.

Robert: No, of course not. Everything's going to be just fine.

*As they talked, the boys' house came into view as they slowly walked along the side of a red bricked-wall fence towards the steps leading toward the front door. It was a two-story type house, with a gray wall and tan-brown rooftop. It was practically wedged between two buildings and there were barely any trees. Still, they could recognize their own house with just a glance*

Joey: Well, this is our stop.

Eva: Okay, Rob. Sounds cool. *kisses Robert on the lips* See ya. *continues walking down the sidewalk*

*For a moment, Robert stands near motionless as he raises a hand towards his lips and in that brief period a small smile seemed to form. Joey seemed to take notice of Rob's change of behavior before reverting back to his usual expressionless self, straightening his sunglasses*

Robert: *clears his throat* Right. We should get inside.

*Thinking it best not to get his brother rallied up, Joey simply nodded and followed his older brother up the steps to the front door. Robert pulled a house key out from under the mat, unlocked the door and turned the knob, before stepping inside*

Robert: Mom, we're home!

*Just then, the boys look to see their mom waiting in the hallway. About three inches shorter than Robert, the mother had spiky brown hair, dressed in a simple white t-shirt and jeans. Clearly judging by her expression, Joey could tell she was very upset…at Robert. That and the house phone she clenched in her right hand*

Joey: Uh oh…

Mrs. Willis: *turns to Joey, did her best to remain calm* Hello, Joey… *turns to Robert* Robert. *back to Joey* Dear, would you mind going upstairs? I need to speak with your brother… Alone.

Joey: *looks to Robert* Busted.

Robert: *annoyed* Shut up.

*Joey just shrugged, resting his head on his hands, casually walking up the stairs to his room. Robert just looked down at the rug with his hands stuffed in his coat pockets, not bothering to return his mother's gaze. He knew where this was going*

Mrs. Willis: Robert, I just got off the phone with your school principal. Apparently, he says you've skipped school… Again!

Robert: *sighs* Here we go…

Mrs. Willis: *groans, throws her hands up* I just don't know what I'm going to do with you! I thought we had a breakthrough around two weeks ago. But now I see I might just consider you going to juvenile hall. Do you want me to do that to you, Robert?

Robert: Mom, I haven't hung out with Chris since I met Eva, I was just--

Mrs. Willis: Then how do you think she's going to feel about you skipping school? *takes Robert's cheek and turns his head towards her* Look at me when I'm talking to you, Robert. Do you realize how hard it is trying to keep food on the table without you--

Robert: Mom, he's my best friend!

Mrs. Willis: Then why doesn't he straighten you out? Frankly, I'm at my wits end trying to get through with you and I'm starting to give up! *slaps her hands to her face, rubs her forehead* You're just not the same boy I remembered from years ago.

Robert: You're the one making a big deal about this! Why can't you just get off my-- Oh, forget it. *walks up the stairs to his room*

Mrs. Willis: Robert…

Robert: *pauses, turns to face his mother*

Mrs. Willis: I just don't want you to…throw away your future. What happened back-- It-- It wasn't your fault.

Robert: *sighs* Whatever. *continues to climb up the stairs*

*Mrs. Willis didn’t respond as she watched her son climb the stairs to his bedroom. She heard the door close upstairs, then looked down at the floor with a heavy sigh. She slowly turned to the house phone still clutched in her hand and made her way to put the phone back in the living room*

*Peering from inside his bedroom, when this whole conversation had taken place, Joey watched through his bedroom door as Robert stormed up the stairs and slammed the door behind him. Looking close he could also see his mother, how sad she truly was in the midst of her frustration. Joey wished he could tell his mother something to comfort her or even to convince his brother that he was being hard on them, but all he could do was look at the floor with sadness. Their family just hadn't been the same in years and something had been slowly tearing them apart. He slowly closed the door behind him and with it shut he leaned his back against the door while holding his backpack, before reeling into a seated position on the wooden surface. Taking a breath, Joey reached into his backpack to remove his school supplies, taking his books and other stuff out*

*Suddenly, Joey felt something 'odd', a strange object he didn't expect to feel inside. Curious, he looks down as his hand made contact with the object again and slowly lifted it out to a stunning discovery. In his hand was a square container, the type that's thin enough to hold a single blue disc inside. On the case itself, a single bold word was tapped on the case, "Prototype". Practically speechless uncovering this object, Joey had no idea how he came into possession of this or who dropped it inside his pack. All he could do was wonder*

*Meanwhile, after slamming the door behind him, Robert violently removed his coat and hurled it towards his bed. He takes a seat near his desk and laptop, sat there for a moment then pressed his hand against his hands and ushered a frustrated scream, the sound barely audible through his palms. With most of his frustration out and after some deep breaths, Robert started to turn his computer on searching for anything to clear his mind up. Robert was online for long when a knock on the door caused him to turn*

Robert: Go away!

Joey: *on the other side of the door* Rob? It's me, Joey. Can I come in for a minute?

Robert: No!

Joey: *on the other side of the door* I CAN get mom to get the door open, bro! You know I can!

Robert: *groans* Fine! But make it quick.

Joey: *opens the door, walks into the room* Sorry to bother you, bro, but you'll never guess what I stumbled upon. Which is why I REALLY need to use the computer for a bit.

Robert: Not right now, I was just about to open up AOL to chat with my friends. You can work on your project afterwards.

Joey: No, no, it's not that. *pulls out the disc* Someone left this in my backpack at school today. I'm not sure who or how it got there, but it looks really cool.

Robert: *looks at the disc* It’s probably your project. Mr. Morrissey must’ve--

Joey: No, it’s not. Mr. Morrissey saved my project on a flash drive. I think this might be a computer game, but I can't be sure. *looks at the case* It just says, "Prototype". Weird name for a game.

Robert: Lemme see that. *takes the case and examines it* Dude, it's not called "Prototype", it just labels that the disk contains some old program that some organization must've been working on a few years back.

Joey: How'd it get in my backpack then?

Robert: Hell if I know. But I'd rather you put it back. I can't risk letting a virus loose on the hard drive.

Joey: What if Mr. Morrissey gave it to me? What if it's a prototype for a new computer game that he just happened to have and wanted me to test it out.

Robert: Then why wouldn't Morrissey ask you first? Sounds odd that he'd just lend you a disc you know nothing about.

Joey: Then lets put it in and find out what it is. If it's a virus, I promise to let you use my allowance to pay to clean the computer. Honest.

Robert: *inspects the disc* Hmm… I don't know.

Joey: Come on bro, please?

Robert: *sighs* Alright, chill. You beg like a lost puppy.

*Still uncertain at first, Robert slowly opened the case and carefully removed the disc, the light from the ceiling lamp making the blue disk reflect the light back. Opening the disk player in his computer, Robert inserts the disk inside. After a few minutes or so to load, a screen pops up reading, 'DIGIMON: Digital Monsters’, right in the middle with a "Play" button. The boys had no idea what to think of this*

Robert: Hmm… Definitely not any computer game I've heard of. Good graphics though.

Joey: Di-gi-mon? What's that, like Pokémon or something?

Robert: I don’t know, probably, I mean there are a bunch of Pokémon knock-offs out there like Yu-gi-oh, Kaijudo, all that stupid crap.

Joey: Does Tamagotchi count?

Robert: How the hell would I know? I haven't played with that junk since I was a kid. *clicks 'Play'*

*Suddenly, the screen turned black for a moment as if it just shut off. Before Robert could say anything, the computer screen reopened showing a rather strange display: A field of sorts with mountains in the background with a rushing water, unlike any place the boys had seen before. Suddenly, shadows instantly zoomed past the screen giving little chance for the boys to get a good look. BOOM! BOOM! Suddenly, there were explosions and blasts sending bits of the field into the air and smoke arises from the blast, as if the boys are glimpsing through a window to a great battle taking place somewhere. Several of these creatures battle back, but one instantly disappeared through a rain of shimmering lights making him explode. And then another shadowy figure approached from where it's opponent stood, as another creature fled. It was taller than the others and it seemed to detect the boys watching. As it turned, they couldn't quite see it's face but it's glowing eyes had a full lock on them nearly causing them to slowly edge back from their screen*

Joey: Is this part of the game?

Robert: Probably just the opening cut-scene; games like this usually start off with a major battle.

Joey: Looks like a some kind of war or something. *smiles* Heh! So far, this game looks pretty friggin' awesome!

Robert: It kind've does… But still, I wonder…

*Robert couldn't help but detect something up with one of the characters, who for a few moments simply stared off as if looking directly at him. Of course, he figured it might be just part of the game unless… It was something else. A blast suddenly zoomed past the figure, who somehow detected it and ducked quickly. It's paws suddenly glowed and it zoomed off towards the source of the attack. Before Robert could see how it turned out, the screen slowly turns brightly white and the computer suddenly appeared to vibrate. It starts to shake faster and faster as if something's about to go off*

Joey: *eyes widen* H-Hey! W-What's going on?!

*Before Robert could reply, a bright beam of light collided against him, his body flung straight to his bed as the light zoomed out the window into the open air. More beams of light shot out, colliding with the room like a pinball machine, as Joey ducked down trying to avoid being hit. Robert grabbed onto his brother by his shoulder and held him close as they watched the beams fly around and make their way out of his room. It was as if the screen acted as a portal releasing these great balls of energy into their house. Then the computer glowed brighter, it shook faster, smoke started to steam from the hard drive and suddenly Robert knew what was about to happen*

Robert: Get down, it's gonna blow!! *grabs his brother, rolls off the bed and ducks down the other side*

*All of a sudden, the computer gave off a small explosion as the last beams of yellow light soared out through the window. The moment it was over, Robert and Joey slowly lifted their heads up to see the carnage. Robert's room looked as if it was hit by a hurricane, all of his stuff in disheveled shape and black marks on his walls where the lights bounced. In the center of it all, his computer was completely charred as smoke emitted from the hardware through a hole in the glass screen*

Robert: *looks at Joey, breathing heavily* You okay?

Joey: *nods his head slowly* Yeah. Yeah, I think I'm all right. What happened?

*Robert slowly approached his now demolished computer, pushed the eject button on his hard drive, amazed that it still had enough power to release the disc. He took it out and examined it thoroughly, shocked that the explosion didn't cause so much of a scratch on any side. Even so, it didn't help that Robert was pissed off as he hurled the disc onto his desk*

Robert: Damn disc!! *examines his computer* Great, just look at this! My computer's completely fried! *sighs, rubs his temple with his fingers* It'll take thousands to replace this model!

Joey: Forget your computer, dude! Did you not see the light show that just happened?!

Robert: Yeah, I saw it! *picking up some pieces* You're lucky that stupid disc of yours didn't cause those lights to blow up half the whole house! When Mom sees this mess... She's gonna be pissed!

Joey: How was I supposed to know something like that would happen!?

Robert: *starts losing his patience* Why you-- Look at the-- This-- *takes a deep breath, softly* Joey, I want you to get out of my room.

Joey: But--

Robert: *quickly turns to his brother, temper flared* Get. Out!

*With nothing to say, Joey quickly fled from Robert's bedroom. Once out of the room, he stopped to take a breath, looked back to the door to his brother's room, then slowly edged his way back to his own room, feeling dejected and sad. Robert, on the other hand, still seething from the events that just occurred, flopped himself onto the bed and stared at the ceiling. A thought crossed his mind and he pulled his cell phone out from his pocket and the street vendor's number on the paper. Robert stares at them carefully thinking out loud*

Robert: *to himself* It's okay, Robert. Maybe after your date you can use the remaining money from the necklace to fix the computer… *looks back to the ceiling* I just hope it's worth something.

*Later that night, all was quiet within the Willis residence. Suddenly, the noise broke by the creaking of a door that slowly opened and Robert poked his head out looking in both directions in case he disturbed anyway. When the coast was clear, Robert came out of his room dressed in his pajamas, consisting of a black shirt and matching pants. Moving slowly and quietly, Robert sneaked toward his mother's bedroom, which was right near the rails of the stairs. He slowly opened the door and peered inside*

*Thankfully, his mother was a heavy sleeper and Robert could see her body covered with a large blanket and her face planted in a pillow. Still not taking any chances, Robert slowly made his way to the bedside table and slowly opened the drawer containing her stuff. He reached inside for a box and opened it to reveal his mother's prized necklace. Just as he reached to grab it, he saw something tapped under the lid that causes him to stop. A black-and-white photo of his mother's wedding night, Mrs. Willis dressed in her wedding gown and looking much happier than he remembered. Next to her was a charming handsome gentleman, all decked out in a suit and tie with a bright smile while holding Mrs. Willis' hands. The very sight made Robert tear up, one of a few pictures of his mother and father happily together. Still, he shook himself into focus and took the necklace out of the box before putting the box back in the drawer and closing it silently. He held the necklace in his right hand and turned to his mother, who remained completely undisturbed by Robert's activity*

Robert: *sadly* I'm so sorry, mom.

*Robert slowly edged out of his mother's bedroom and returns to his own room, closing the door gently behind him. He sat at the bedside, as if having a mental battle with his conscious. He then took out his phone, snapped a picture of his mother's necklace, and sent the picture to Julio's number. Now, all he had to do was wait to see if the salesman was still awake to send a response. Even with his cell phone on vibrate, so as not to cause any suspicions, Robert started having doubts about this plan*

Robert: *to himself* Just as well it was just a worthless piece of jewelry anyway.

*Suddenly, his cellphone started to vibrate and Robert looked down to see that he got a text message. He opened it up and to his surprise, Julio actually gave a quick response after a minute or two. Robert read the text*

Julio's Text: That's some rare treasure you got there, dude. Meet me at the street corner written on the slip I gave ya. Bring the prize, claim your reward.

*Meanwhile, the streets of New York City were still paved with activity. There was plenty of reasons why they called it the 'City that Never Sleeps', as cars continued to sweep by through the streets even when there only half the number of people strolling by as it was during the day. And yet, there was so much activity with so much life, the lights, and music, it could cover almost anything. Even the screams of one frightened woman, who found herself running for her life in one of the city's darkest alleyways. She found herself having trouble catching her breath, pushing her away through a few empty trashcans, and looking back every second as if someone was pursuing her in these maze-like alleys. Suddenly, she found herself running into a dead end, literally, taken by surprise to be against a wall. She tried to turn back, but it was already too late. For having caught her in a corner, dressed in winter clothing and pulling out a pocketknife from his coat, was one of the filthiest muggers ever to walk these alleys*

Mugger: Heh-heh. Nowhere to hide, little mouse. *twirls the knife between his fingers* Game's up: Now give me what I want and I promise not to lay a scratch on that pretty little face… At least, not "too" big.

*The woman just responded by blubbering tears in a frightened panic, crouching down on the floor as if she were ready to surrender. The mugger just simply looked down at the pitiful frightened mess of a woman, yet shrugged in an indifferent manner*

Mugger: Very well. *slowly motions toward her* You just made this all too easy.

*As the woman cried anticipating the worse, the mugger scratched his knife along the brick wall watching tiny sparks fly past and the woman covers her ears from the screeching sound. As the mugger chuckled to himself, reaching out towards the woman, a series of lights suddenly waved past the mugger and one struck the man by his hand. The knife hit a puddle as the mugger groaned while holding his hand, seeing a scratch at the top of his wrist*

Mugger: What the fu--

*Before he could respond, a swift figure tackled the mugger straight into the dark opening from whence he came. The woman hid behind a nearby trashcan as the mugger's single scream is covered by the sound of a brawl and the sound of contact could be heard. She closed her eyes, forced to listen to the sounds of a fight, until silence returned to the alley. Opening her eyes slowly, she crept towards where she last saw the mugger and peered down the other alley. The alley appeared to be empty, nothing much but garbage cans and lamp posts, which she was too frightened to notice. She looked side to side for a moment, when suddenly, a finger dropped in front of her, causing her to scream and fall back on the floor. Taking her breath, she saw that it was the mugger from before, except now he was hung upside down on a lamp post and his legs tied up with some rope of sorts. She didn’t have time to question, when she heard nearby police sirens from a patrol vehicle and rushed out to the nearest exit*

Woman: *calls out* HELP!!! SOMEONE, PLEASE! HELP!!!

*As the woman rushed out the alley, leaving the unconscious mugger to hang by his legs till the police arrived to apprehend him, a tall mysterious figure stood atop a large building overlooking the alley. Though not much of an outline could be seen, this mysterious figure stood looking over the city and taking in all the activity that this strange place can offer. Yet, in the midst the citizens leading everyday lives and all the activity at work in the city, it would appear as if this stranger was looking for one specific target*

*The next morning felt just like every other morning in New York, as Robert was walking Joey to school that day. Neither one spoke after the little falling out involving a disc that blew up one of the only computers they had in the whole house, for fear that Joey may open an old wound. So they walked in silence, barely acknowledging each other. But finally, Joey just couldn't stand the silence anymore*

Joey: We can't just act like it didn't happen, Rob.

Robert: There's nothing to talk about, Joey. It was a weird night and that's all it was.

Joey: Weird? Weird?! Dude, you're computer friggin' exploded!! Mom heard it all the way from the living room. When she asked me what the noise was, I had to cover your butt and say that your television was turned on and the volume was too high!

Robert: You know you like me, bro, even if I treat you badly.

Joey: You're just lucky mom was too tired to investigate that disturbance. Why do you and mom have to fight all the time?

Robert: You wouldn't understand even if I told you. So why bother asking? *stops in front of an alleyway* The school should be just up ahead. You go on ahead; I'm taking a shortcut.

Joey: You're not skipping again, are you?

Robert: What are you? Mom? *walks into the alleyway*

Joey: *sighs* Whatever. *continues walking*

*Sometime after that 'chat', Robert had since been walking down the dark alleyway seemingly all by himself. He had gone through this particular alley several times and knew that the street would be just around the other end, provided that he kept going the same direction. In the meantime, this moment of solitary gave Robert a chance to reflect*

Robert: *to himself* What does he care if I go to school or not? Why should anyway care? Mom, Joey, Chris… They all should get out of my face. Besides, I've got better things to do then waste time on subjects I won't be using for my future. *pulls the necklace out from his coat pocket* Doesn't matter. I just need my money and I'll take Eva to any place she could ever dream of going, the whole day for ourselves. Oh yes, Saturday’s going to be a great day.

*Robert didn't have long to ponder, when he caught notice of a figure rushing through the shadows. It moved so quickly and yet that small glance was enough to alert the teen that he wasn't alone. Putting the necklace back in his coat pocket, Robert held his ground where he stood, turning his head sideways and the other trying to see what it was. After a while, Robert shrugged off his suspicious feelings and continued his trek through the alley, which was spooky enough even during the day*

???: Robert Willis…

*Robert stopped again, the sound of that ominous voice caught him by surprise. Listening close, the voice sounded feminine, and yet he was not taking any chances now that he was fully aware of a presence that might attempt to mug him. He looked around for something to defend himself and came across a loose rusty pipe barely held by the loose screws. Robert took the pipe, loosened it from it's bonds, and held it close to him like a club. Rob looked from one side to another, waiting for the figure to unveil itself*

Robert: Who's that? Who's out there?

???: Do not be afraid, Robert Willis… For I mean you no harm.

Robert: I don't know how you know my name, but you better back off! I've got a pipe and I know how to use it!

*The sound of trashcans motioning and the patter of feet drew Robert's attention. He quickly arched his way to a wall of the alley, and leaned into a hiding spot keeping as far out of sight as possible. Cautious, he peered his head inches from hiding and turned to see a figure step out from the shadows. To Robert's shock, he glimpsed a tall female anthropomorphic yellow fox with purple streaks under her eyes and on her calves, along with purple silk gauntlets on each arm, each of which had a yin-yang symbol on them. In that moment, she appeared to just stand there as if scanning the perimeter looking for Robert, who turned pale with fear. Looking away with similar eyes of fright, Robert made a mental note that he had to remain focused. Whether it was his mind playing tricks on him or a sociopath dressed in a tacky costume, Rob was determined not to fall victim to a mugging. So he took a deep breath, clenched his pipe tightly, and after swelling his chest…*

Robert: AAAAHHHH!!! *swings the pipe at the fox*

Fox: *catches the pipe in her hand* You're skills are impressive, Robert Willis. *discards the pipe* Yet, you calculate your moves.

Robert: *stares in shock at the fox* Who… W-W-What the hell are you?

Fox: I am Renamon, and I have come to meet the chosen Digidestined, the one who opened the gateway to my world. I have come to meet…you.

OK hear me out I have an idea for the upcoming reboot what if you were to give Rorbert like a stepfather(Who is also a cop) give him another reason to rebel against authority and maybe add a bit drama. Unless it’s playing to change the story in the reboot. i’m not trying to impose or anything. I just thought I should toss idea out there
