Logan Meets The Pagemaster Prologue

Prologue

*Darkness, a void of black where all around was an absence of light. Soft breathing could be heard inside this place, as light slowly shown and an eye struggles to open up. It looks up to see that it is lying on it's back, as he slowly lifts his back and breathes a deep sigh. He turns all around to notice other figures in the area, all of them out cold. There was a man dressed in an old fashion sailor's uniform muttering in his sleep and a human-like rat in Renaissance clothes swishing his tail side-to-side. The viewer then slowly turns to the other side where a night elf rests with it's back along some wall while a Snow Leopard lies curled in his lap and near them was a white robot with the figure of a horse with a cowboy hat knelt down covering it's eyelids matching it's western attire. The figure lifts a hand to his head, feels glasses over his brow, and gently lifts them down as the room now appeared faded. For this would turn out to be the leader of this motley crew of explorers, the boy simply known as Logan*

Logan: Ugh… W-Where are we…?

Isaac: *wakes up and groans* Ugh… Man, what a trip! That must've been some party…

Loki: *growls, translating* Ow! My head!

Popeye: *wakes up with a snore* Huh? Is it brekfass time all readies?

Justin: *wakes up* Ugh… What happened?

Bonnie: *systems restart* Logan, when you can pilot these space trips, you really know how to… Wait. *looks around* This isn't our ship!

Logan: Oh no… Not again! *looks around* Max! Max, where are you? Max! *echoes* Damn it, he's not here!

Justin: We can clearly see that, Logan, but what did you mean by 'not again'?

Logan: Last time we went through a time hole, we got…separated.

Isaac: What on Earth does that mean? We're now trapped in inter-dimensional limbo? Or else we're… NO! I died and went to the other place, the world without the women in robes, with the bird wings, and using clouds for beds...

Logan: Bonnie, hit him!

Bonnie: No problem. *swings an arm back and slaps Isaac at the back of his head, sending him face-first to the floor* Whoops, don't know my own strength sometimes.

Isaac: OW!!! Okay, so I'm NOT dead.

Loki: *growling, translating* Finally, someone hits him… Too bad it wasn't me.

Isaac: So, where are we anyway?

Logan: I don't know. Usually Max would tell us where we were going before we'd land. *checks his gauntlet* Unfortunately, my gauntlets can't give a reading as to where we are. Without either-or, it looks like we're stuck here until Max can pick us back up… IF he picks us up, that is.

Justin: *looks around* It…looks like we're in a library of some sort. A very LARGE library.

Popeye: *takes a book from off a shelf titles 'The Hobbit' and examines it* Huh, what d'ya knows? This book talks of a tiny habbit creature on some quest with a wizzards and dwarfs… *scratches his head* Now where's did I hear that's before?

Isaac: Lemme see that. *takes the book from Popeye and examines it* The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein. Ooh, this one's a classic!

Justin: Wait a minute! *looks at the cover* The Hobbit… You mean that world we went to…was based on a book? I mean, I've read plenty of books about magical lands before. But I didn't think somebody already wrote a book about Middle Earth… Or at least everything that already happened!

Logan: *takes a book off the shelf and examines it* Here's another one. *reads the title* Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien. *eyes widen* Justin…

Justin: Let me see that book.

Logan: *hands Justin the book* Here.

Justin: *reads the book, skimming a few pages* Mrs. Frisby's son, Timothy, is ill just as the farmer Mr. Fitzgibbon prepares for spring plowing… *skips ahead* Discovers rats with human intelligence… *skips ahead* Justin manages to get her out of the cage… I did that? *closes the book* Well clearly, this book is not the same! They even got her name wrong!

Logan: I wonder what other books are here…

*Popeye looks around the several shelves and spots a book with a strange title: Jaws by Peter Benchley. Curious, Popeye opens the book and takes a deep look at the pages. Suddenly, a Great White Shark bursts through the book and snapping it's jaws as Popeye pulls back. He gives a frightened yelp before swapping the shark on the nose with a heavy punch. Popeye then closes the book and tosses it onto the ground, hyperventilating after that unexpected surprise*

Bonnie: Popeye, what's wrong?

Popeye: Bonnies… *points to the book* There's somethin' fishy goin's on in that book! Big fish tried to eats me!

Bonnie: *raises an eyebrow* What?

Popeye: Fish… *stretches his arms wide* This bigs! *points to the book* Comes out from there!

Bonnie: Oookay…

Logan: Wait! Popeye might be onto something. Justin, hand me another book.

Justin: Okay, uh… *sees a book on the shelf and takes it* Here… Take this one!

*Justin passes a different book to Logan, who catches it and reads the title: Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. After reading the title, Logan slowly opens the book and peers close. Suddenly, a bright flash of light hits his face and a loud train whistle could be heard to the surprise of the crew. Logan's eyes recover only to see a the Orient Express heading straight toward him*

Logan: WHOA!!! *slams the book shut and drops it onto the floor* Jeez! I've heard of stories coming to life, but this is ridiculous!

Isaac: What kind of library is this anyway?

Popeye: I don'ts know, but I wouldn'tsk like to meets its librarian.

Justin: Never mind the Librarian. Let's just try to get out and return to Max.

Logan: Hold on, Justin. If that time hole brought us to this library, then that means it brought us here for a reason. I say we stick around and try to figure out why we're here, and then we can go look for Max.

Isaac: If the reason being is to freak us out with these trippy books, I'd say this place has done a good job of doing that! Although… I should really start paying more respect to the books before reviewing their film adaptations.

Loki: *growls, translating* Dork…

Logan: Okay, so like Popeye said, there must be a librarian around here somewhere, right?

Justin: Right, so… Maybe we should go look for him… Or her. Maybe they can help us.

Logan: *nods* Exactly. Let's spread out and start looking around. But not too far… We could easily get lost in a place this big.

Justin: *nods* Right.

*They slowly examine the library in different directions hoping to find some clues as to where they are and more importantly where the librarian is. Walking around each row of books, they seemed to be either going about in a circle or otherwise felt like walking in a maze. Everywhere they went, everything else felt the same unless it was all a trick in their heads. Just as Popeye thought he found the way to a front desk, he finds himself standing in the center of the room and looks up... Something intriguing him.

Popeye: HEY! Fellas! You mights wanna takes a look at this!

Bonnie: *walks over* What is it, Popeye? *looks up* Oh my!

Isaac: *joins up* Did you find him already…? *looks up* Whoa!

Justin: *walks up* Hey, what are you all staring at? *looks up* Huh?

Loki: *growling, translating sarcastically* Oh gee, could it be the stained glass painting of those weird characters on the ceiling?

Logan: *walks up* Guys, come on, we're supposed to be looking for the-- *looks up* Li…brar…ian…?

*For a moment, the entire team was completely distracted by the painting aligned on the ceiling. For this wasn't an ordinary set of stained glass paintings, but something even more strange: There was a picture of a knight, armed for combat, shielding himself against a fearsome fire-breathing Dragon. A band of Pirates searching for treasure on an island with a ship in the background, a bearded harpooner lunging his harpoon against a massive whale, and there was even one of a posh scientist performing some experiment with the shadow of a hairy beast on the wall. But the one picture that attracted their attention the most was a Wizard in blue garbs, holding a spear and a book seemingly gazing down toward our heroes. The pictures themselves looked so real*

Bonnie: It's so…beautiful.

Justin: Yeah. Whoever painted this must've spent a lifetime perfecting it.

Isaac: I recognize those images. They're from famous pieces of literature. St. George and the Dragon, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Moby Dick, Treasure Island… But who's that guy in the middle? Looks like some kind of wizard to me.

Popeye: That's definicklies NOT Gandalfs!

Bonnie: Gan-who?

Popeye: We'll explain latas;

Logan: Popeye's right. *motions to the Wizard painting* Nothing about this Wizard seems familiar. *eyes widen* Wait a minute… Magical books…. A library that stretches into infinity… Guys… I think that's the Pagemaster!

Loki: *growling, translating* The Pagemaster?

Logan: My mentor, Master Yen Sid, once told me about him. He is said to be one of the wisest wizards who had ever lived. With his vast knowledge of literature, he could even be able to predict the future. This must be HIS library!

Isaac: So let me get this straight: If we find this 'Pagemaster', we can take advantage of his 'magical' powers to get us home?

Logan: Most likely.

Justin: Or maybe, WE won't have to find him. For all we know… HE could find us.

Logan: That IS a possibility.

Bonnie: Let's just hope he can be trusted… *takes out her revolvers, spinning them by her fingers* I'll be ready in case he can't.

Logan: Put those away, Bonnie! The Pagemaster is a good friend of my mentor, and if he sees you pointing those guns at him, he'll be insulted!

Bonnie: Oh! *puts her guns away and blushes out of embarrassment* Sorry!

Isaac: Heh. And they said I was trigger-happy.

Justin: So, what do we do now?

Logan: We do know that somewhere in this library, the Pagemaster is bound to show himself at some point. We find the Pagemaster, we'll be one step closer to discovering why we were brought here in the first place.

Bonnie: So…we just wait here until he shows up?

Logan: Honestly… That's a yes. Nothing much we can do anyway. *settles himself on the ground* We may as well make ourselves comfortable, 'cause it looks like we're gonna be here for a while.

Popeye: *shrugs* It's not likes this couldst possiblies gets any woirse.

*As the crew settle down along the library, unsure of what awaits them, a shadowy figure looms from behind one of the book shelves. It's figure could not be seen, yet a pair of feline eyes illuminates through the blackness stares down at the un-suspicious group. A female chuckle echoes just mere inches from hearing, showing that this mysterious stranger was in fact a woman. Whatever her motives are against the heroes… She had many devious plans in store for Logan and his motley. Devious plans indeed…*
