Description

Here is the third compilation of all the artists (including myself), taking part in the third month of :iconlkhff:'s Monster Countdown to Halloween, as we all take a crack at redesigning The Mummy.

:iconretrouniverseart:'s interpretation hails from Mexico as he has exchanged his Egyptian bandages for a fine Guanajuato suit and sombrero. Though for a mummy, he is kinda...fat. LOL

For my design, I decided to give him a golden pharaoh mask, like the kind found on actual mummies. However, unlike those, who wear the face of the God of Mummification, Osiris, my mummy wears the face of Maahes, the lion headed God of War. In life, he was one a great, but war hungry pharaoh named Munakhanem I, who ruled the land with an iron fist. So bloody was his reign, so many were the innocents slaughtered by his lust for conquest, that the high priests of the gods turned against him. One night, while he was planning his invasion of Nubia, Munakhanem was attacked by the priests, who slaughtered his generals and cursed the pharaoh, stripping his ka from his body and trapping it forever in limbo. After he was killed, he was mummified with a golden mask of Maahes placed over his head, which served as a symbol of his war hungry blood-lust for power. As the sarcophagus was interred, the priests placed powerful talismans, blessed by each of the major gods, in the burial chamber to prevent the pharaoh's soul from ever rising again. For millennia, the reign of Munakhanem was forgotten. But one day...he would rise again.

:iconkylgrv: originally
planned a more comedic take by having the mummy be a plumber since when he looks at mummies, they look like beings that are wrapped up in toilet paper. He thought that would be funny, but for some reason, he didn't have much motivation to draw it. Recently however, he remembered "The Prince of Egypt," specifically, the song "You're Playing With the Big Boys Now." That sequence is intense but awesome at the same time. With that, he ultimately settled in for a mummified dancer. As you can see, the head looks like it could belong to a cat. That's actually paying homage to the fact that cats were once worshiped in ancient Egypt, along with the dung beetle. He learned both of these facts from National Geographic. You can actually see dung beetles crawling along the dancers attire, and he thought that was an important thing to include in this drawing. The big question though is, who is this dancer? What are its origins? How did it come to be? The world may never know...or will it?

:iconkingleolionheart:'s interpretation, like his interpretation of Frankenstein's Monster, is again, pretty basic.

:iconmoheart7:'s interpretation of the mummy happens to be female, drawing inspiration from
Benmummy from Ben 10, Nefertina from Mummies Alive, Murray from Hotel Transelvania, and Cleopatra.

:iconmoartproductions:
figured he'd make his interpretation of the Mummy look like an Ancient Egyptian priest since that was his title back when he was among the living, much like Imhotep from the Original 1931 Mummy and the 1999 Brendan Fraser film.

:iconmalchiorofnol:'s interpretation is his take of Imhotep from the Universal movies. A
devoted high priest to the pharaoh Seti I of Egypt, and a speaker for the gods. Imhotep had everything a man could want... except one. When his gaze fell upon his king's beautiful young daughter, Nefertari, Imhotep attempted a forbidden spell to MAKE her fall in love with him. Discovered by the royal guard before he could complete the ritual, Imhotep was condemned to the harshest punishment... to be mummified ALIVE! His sarcophagus was inscribed with curses to doom his soul to never move on to the afterlife and forever be trapped in limbo! 5,000 years later, a band of treasure hunters stumble across the lost tomb of Imhotep and, ignoring all warnings and talk of curses, find and carry the doomed priest's body away. Now, awakened in modern London, Imhotep lives again, intent on restoring his body and taking his revenge on all mankind for his fate. "This world condemned me to eternal suffering. Now, all shall suffer MY fate!"

:iconkevinlooneytralee:
drew the Mummy as an evil pharaoh.

:iconro-thegoat:
decided to base the titular mummy off a specific figure from ancient Egypt, the Queen Nefertiti. Nefertiti is known through art, carvings and writings but no one knows where her mummy or tomb is, well she's here now and she's ready to put a curse on you!

EDIT: Added Ro-thegoat to the compilation.

EDIT 2: Updated my Mummy design.
